Many patients present to the ER with debilitating knee pain. This is due to osteoarthritis, or ‘wear and tear’ arthritis. It occurs because the cartilage at the ends of the bone wears away. Over time, bone starts to hit against bone and causes a lot of pain. Eventually, many patients need a knee replacement to deal with pain.
